Progress and insights into the construction of London Power Tunnels 2 (LPT2) Tunnels & Shafts

Since December 2019, HOCHTIEF-MURPHY Joint Venture and National Grid have been working hard to deliver the underground works of LPT2, National Grid’s seven-year, £1bn project that is rewiring South London.

Since then the team has completed the detailed design as well as the construction of over 18km of the 32.5km long 3m diameter tunnel. Four Tunnel Boring Machines are in use, with construction activities stretching from Wimbledon in the West to Crayford in the East.

This presentation will overview progress on the project so far and the different construction techniques employed constructing shafts and tunnels through the full variety of London geology.
