Ultra-low carbon precast concrete tunnel linings in practice

Cement production, a major component of concrete, contributes 8% of global CO2 emissions. In response, VINCI Construction has launched EXEGY with the ambition of developing low-carbon concrete solutions on construction sites worldwide. Two successful approaches that include Ultra Low Carbon Precast Concrete Tunnel Lining are:

1. Performance-Based: Using a mix of 20% cement and 80% alkali binder deployed on jacking pipes for a micro-tunnel project.
2. Cemfree Binder: Replacing cement entirely with an alkali-activated binder, approved for use in prefabricated tunnel segments and installed successfully in a tunnel section on the Grand Paris Express Line 18.

These innovations reduce the carbon footprint of tunnels, contributing to environmental sustainability and will be discussed in this presentation.
