Using Codes and Standards to facilitate the adoption of Lower Carbon Fibre Reinforced Concrete Tunnel Linings
fib model code 2010 consolidated fibre-reinforced concrete (FRC) design guidance consistent with limit state principles that are subsumed into the second-generation Eurocodes. In the meantime, these principles were adopted in documents supporting FRC application in tunnel linings with material characterisation requiring notched beam testing with feedback loop strain control. For permanent works segmental linings conformance testing consistent with limit state design methodologies contrasts with sprayed concrete linings (SCL) historically treated as primary support and empirically designed. Permanent works SCL requires limit state design, compatible test methods and related amendments to the relevant codes. The developments are explained and research on a notched panel alternate to the beam test presented.
