The route to low carbon concrete linings

The scientific community has issued stark warnings about what could happen if we do not rise to the challenge of reducing global CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) emissions. To date, the scale and urgency of carbon reduction has not been at the pace needed to prevent catastrophic global heating. We are at risk of passing tipping points, beyond which the planet will not recover. We are tunnellers, so we must reduce the CO₂e emissions associated with tunnelling. On tunnelling projects, 60-80% of the embodied CO₂e emissions are in the concrete tunnel lining. Therefore, the easiest way for us to have the biggest positive impact is to reduce the CO₂e emissions associated with the concrete tunnel linings, and this is the focus of this presentation.
